The Ottoman Empire is lasted from 1299 to 1923. It was founded in the 13th century by Osman I.
The empire spread rapidly, superseding the Byzantine Empire in the east. By 1453 the Ottomans, under Mehmed II, had destroyed the Byzantine Empire its capital, Constantinople (now ISTANBUL)
Very soon the Ottoman Empire reached its greatest time. Süleyman (1520 -1566) took control of some parts of Persia, most of Arabia, and the Balkans.
By the early 16th century the Ottomans had also stepped in Syria and Egypt.
In 1683, Ottoman forces repeatedly besieged Vienna. After their final effort at taking the Austrian capital failed. Ottoman Empire was one of the greatest and also most powerful civilizations of the world.
In the 17th and 18th centuries Ottoman started losing power and wars with Austria and Poland weakened the Ottoman Empire. In the 19th century Ottoman came to called to the ‘sick man of Europe’. Ottoman lost most of its European territory in the Balkan Wars (1912-1913).
Ottoman sided with Germans in World War I (1914-1918), post-war treaties dissolved the empire. The end to the Ottoman Empire came with the secularization of Turkey after World War II along European models of government.
After the war The Ottoman Empire was abolished in 1923 by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk and replaced with the Republic of Turkey.
